from Press Release
Loretto, PA – Sophomores Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) and Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NY/Manasquan) scored four goals apiece to lead the Wagner women's lacrosse team to its sixth consecutive victory, a 16-10 road conquest of Saint Francis U, a victory that propels the Seahawks into next weekend's Northeast Conference Championships with a 6-1 league record and an overall mark of 10-6.
The Seahawks are the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament and will meet No. 3 seed Robert Morris on Friday, May 2 at 7:00 pm with No. 1 seed Bryant facing No. 4 seed Central Connecticut in the first semifinal matchup at 4:00 pm. The entire four-team tournament NEC Tournament is held at on the campus of the No. 1 seed, thus Friday's semifinal contests, and Sunday's 1:00 pm championship game, will be held at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
Wagner, under the direction of first-year head coach Liz Frisoli, is playing in its first NEC Tourney since 2005 and the six NEC wins ties the 2005 team (6-2) for the most league wins in program history. The Seahawks enter Friday's first-round matchup just one victory shy of equaling the school-record of 11 wins that was achieved in 2002.
