MCLA PPOY Barton to Miss Entire Season
A week after earning Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Player of the Year honors for MCLA Division I, Grand Canyon's Carson Barton found out he'll miss the entire 2014 campaign, according to GCU head coach Manny Rapkin.
Hobbled by a nagging injury left over from fall ball, Carson had the ailment checked and received word it was a torn ACL. He'll have surgery on Feb. 6 and miss the 'Lopes season, one that they enter ranked No. 8 in the country.
Barton, a native of Edmonton, scored 55 goals and dished out 30 assists for Grand Canyon, located in Phoenix, last spring, guiding the 'Lopes to an 8-6 record and a berth in the MCLA Division I national tournament. GCU became the first former MCLA D-II team to move to MCLA D-I and make nationals in its first season.
In two seasons at Grand Canyon, Barton has scored 110 goals with 55 assists. Barton missed his freshman year in 2011, when the 'Lopes played their final season in NCAA Division II, with a foot injury. Rapkin was unsure whether Barton would pursue a medical redshirt season and return for the 2015 campaign.
