United Women's Lacrosse League Announces Inaugural Schedule

from LaxMagazine.com staff reports | Twitter

The United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX), the first semi-professional post-collegiate opportunity for women, announced Wednesday the inaugural eight-week, 16-game schedule for its four teams based in Baltimore, Boston, Long Island and Philadelphia.

Opening weekend coincides with the 2016 NCAA Division I and Division III women's lacrosse final four at Talen Energy Stadium, formerly named PPL Park, as well as the US Lacrosse Women's National Tournament at Lehigh University (May 28-29), one of the nation's marquee college recruiting events with nearly 70 teams from across the country competing annually.

The Division I semifinals will be played on Friday, May 27, with its championship on Sunday, May 29, while the Division III semifinals and final will occur back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday.

To kick off the first season, the UWLX will feature a doubleheader on May 28 with the inaugural game between traditional lacrosse hotbeds Baltimore and Long Island at 3:15 p.m., followed by a tilt between Philadelphia and Boston at 5 p.m.

Each team will play eight games between five locations: Cherokee High School (Marlton, N.J.), Lehigh University (Bethlehem, Pa.), River City Sportsplex (Richmond, Va.), UMass Amherst (Amherst, Mass.) and Westtown School (West Chester, Pa.).

Each game occurs during a national recruiting tournament. After the inaugural doubleheader, the next two games will be played at the New England Cup, followed by the June 18 matchups at the National Draw. Project 120 will host four games on June 24 and 25, while The Grind will feature the Baltimore-Philadelphia contest. The final stretch of the season will be played in conjunction with the STX Capital Cup, an official IWLCA tournament.

A league championship will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 1 p.m. following semifinals on July 29.
