Countdown to Convention: You Down with CEP? Get Certified in Baltimore

Are you a current lacrosse coach or thinking about getting into the game? Whether you're a former player looking to lead a program, a parent coaching your child's team or a lacrosse aficionado looking to spread this great game, the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program will give you the tools needed to successfully teach the mechanics, fundamentals and advanced techniques of the sport.

The most elite lacrosse players in the world have taken the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program. Did you know the entire U.S. women's national lacrosse team is CEP Level 1 certified?

"The coaching education program is definitely beneficial for the U.S. national team players," said Acacia Walker, Team USA midfielder and associate head coach at Boston University. "Most players are very comfortable and confident instructing young players. However, the program reminds highly talented players and coaches how to teach at a very simple level. Sometimes elite players forget to emphasize the fundamental basic concepts of the game to new players. It's important that we are reminded so we don't skip them when instructing."

At the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore this January, US Lacrosse will provide the opportunity for coaches to get nationally certified for only $100 (that's $65 less than the usual certification components the rest of the year) if they register before Nov. 15. Individuals can get fully certified in just one weekend by taking the online course, the instructional clinic and the PCA workshop. Talk about efficient.

Certification is more than just a piece of paper – it's a guarantee to parents, administrators and your kids that you are a qualified, well-rounded coach. US Lacrosse certified coaches are able to teach the rules of lacrosse, provide progression of the game from fundamentals to advanced skills, offer error correction and have the confidence to enforce sportsmanship and demonstrate positive coaching techniques.

What else could US Lacrosse possibly offer on top of that? Here are a few cherries:

* Reebok is offering 20 percent off its Reetrain men's lacrosse stick and other gear.
* Champion will raffle off four sets of team pennies for Level 1 and Level 2 CEP clinic attendees at the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention.
* Certified coaches are invited to attend the US Lacrosse CEP VIP tent at the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention for giveaways, raffles, contests and resources.
* All certified coaches are invited to attend the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention for 10 percent off registration (before Nov. 15).
