BALTIMORE - US Lacrosse today announced the additions of attackers Danielle Spencer (Northwestern '10) and Caroline Tarzian (Georgetown '15) to the 2012-14 U.S. women's national senior team. The moves bring the training team roster to 38 players who will compete for 18 spots on the 2013 U.S. women's national team that will defend its 2009 gold medal at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario.

Spencer, a former three-time NCAA champion at Northwestern (2007-09), has been a member of the U.S. women's national team since 2010. The two-time All-American finished her career ranked second all-time in school history with 203 draw controls and sixth all-time with 193 goals. Spencer collected 100 draw controls in 2010, which set a Northwestern single-season record and third in NCAA history. A native of Brighton, N.Y., Spencer is currently an assistant coach at her alma mater.

"We're excited to welcome back Danielle to the team at full strength," coach Ricky Fried said. "Her athleticism and ability to use her strength to get to the goal make her a great asset for us."

Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y.) finished her freshman season at Georgetown as the Hoyas' second-leading scorer with 43 points (34 g, 9 a) en route to second-team All-Big East Conference honors. A two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American (2010-11), she led Garden City High to four consecutive state titles from 2008-11.

"Caroline brings a left-handed attacking punch to the team, and her ability to feed and dodge will give us additional depth at that position," Fried said.

Spencer and Tarzian join the U.S. women's national team prior to its first training weekend, Sept. 7-9 at UMBC. The team will next compete at the 2012 US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes event, Oct. 3-7 in Palo Alto, Calif., on the campus of Stanford University and nearby Burlingame (Calif.) High. Team USA will take on Team Australia, along with collegiate teams Cal and Stanford in weekend action that also includes Canada, England and Rikkyo University (Japan). The matchup against Australia is the first between the world's top two teams since 2009, when Team USA defeated Australia 8-7 to capture the gold medal at the FIL World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.

The final 18-player U.S. women's national team roster is expected to be announced in February 2013.
