U.S. Men's Champion Challenge Roster Trimmed
NLL commitments reduce size; Schmidt added to team

The roster that will represent Team USA at Champion Challenge, a US Lacrosse event, Jan. 26-27 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and play defending national men’s champion Loyola has been trimmed from 38 to 33 players, mostly due to National Lacrosse League commitments of players originally named to the U.S. team in November.
Among those unable to play, according to US Lacrosse, are four members of the Philadelphia Wings: most notably midfielder Paul Rabil, along with defensemen C.J. Costabile, Kyle Hartzell and Chad Wiedmaier. The Wings play on back-to-back days the same weekend in Buffalo and Philadelphia.
Defenseman Eric Martin (Colorado Mammoth) and midfielder Kevin Unterstein also will not play, as the Mammoth play Calgary in Denver on Jan. 25 and Unterstein has a coaching commitment that weekend with Hofstra, where he is an assistant.
The U.S. men, led by Furman coach Richie Meade, play Loyola at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 27 (ESPN3.com/LaxMagazine.com live blog) and face Notre Dame and Jacksonville on Jan. 26 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The U.S. women face reigning national champion Northwestern at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 (ESPN3.com/LaxMagazine.com live blog) and national runner-up Syracuse and Team England on Jan. 26.
