BALTIMORE – US Lacrosse has announced today that Tim Flynn, a former U.S. U19 team assistant coach and the current head coach at Mountain Lakes (N.J.) High School will serve as the head coach for the U.S. men's national U19 lacrosse team that will compete in the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship in Turku, Finland.

Flynn has been the head boys' varsity lacrosse coach at Mountain Lakes High School since 1979. He has served as a physical education instructor since 1979 and took the helm as department head in 1999. Flynn is past president of the New Jersey Lacrosse Coaches Association and a past trustee of the New Jersey chapter of US Lacrosse. His resume also lists extensive awards for his coaching excellence, including New Jersey Coach of the Year bestowed by both the New Jersey Star Ledger (1987, 1989) and the New Jersey Coaches Association (1988, 1993). He was the recipient of the Len Roland Sportsmanship Award (1990) and the Garden State Games Distinguished Service Award (1997). Flynn is a member of the New Jersey Chapter of US Lacrosse Hall of Fame (inducted 1998), the NJSIAA Hall of Fame (inducted 1995) and the Montclair State College Lacrosse Hall of Fame (inducted 2009).

No stranger to the U.S. national lacrosse teams program, Flynn served as assistant coach for the 2008 world champion U.S. men's national U19 team.

"We received an unprecedented amount of interest in this position from a number of very qualified candidates, but Tim quickly rose to the top of the list based on his remarkable history of success on the lacrosse field, his proven record of developing outstanding student-athletes of high character, and his knowledge of and experience with international play," said Nathaniel Badder, US Lacrosse's director of national teams. "Flynn epitomizes what US Lacrosse stands for and will be an outstanding ambassador for the sport as he leads this team into competition in Finland in 2012."

"It is an honor to have been chosen as the U.S. U19 head men's coach by US Lacrosse," Flynn said. "The experience of being an assistant coach on the 2008 gold medal team provided both great excitement and true education. I am looking forward to the challenge of helping to defend our world championship in Finland in 2012."

The U.S. men's national U19 lacrosse team won gold in all six of the past ILF World Championships (2008, 2003, 1999, 1996, 1992 and 1988). In Team USA's most recent victory, the Americans beat Canada for the gold in Coquitlam, B.C., by a score of 19-12.
