Five Additions Complete U.S. Indoor Team
from press release
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- U.S. Indoor Lacrosse, which has been enlisted by US Lacrosse to manage and operate the U.S. team at the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Indoor World Championships, announced five additions to the roster for the U.S. men's national team which will compete in Prague, Czech Republic in May.
Matt Alrich, Ginny Capicchioni, Ryan Hotaling, Sean Morris and Joe Smith were added to the team this week to complete the Americans' 23-person roster.
The five additional players were decided by the USIL Selection Committee following six weeks of scouting and consideration during the professional indoor season.
Alrich, who plays defense for the NLL's Philadelphia Wings, led Team USA in scoring in 2007 with 16 goals and 12 assists in five games. The seven-year NLL veteran has 23 goals and 31 assists in 87 career games. Currently a member of the MLL's Rochester Rattlers, Alrich has scored 101 goals and 18 assists in 51 career pro outdoor games. The 2004 Delaware graduate scored 83 goals and 20 assists in 48 games for the Blue Hens, where he was named the team's most valuable player as a senior.
Capicchioni is known for being the first woman to ever play in a
professional men's team sporting event in the United States. A
former three-time Northeast Conference Goalie of the Year at Sacred
Heart University, Capicchioni appeared in three games for the NLL's
New Jersey Storm in 2003. The Oradell, N.J., native has been active
on the club box lacrosse circuit since, most recently playing with
the WLA's Coquitlam Adanacs in preparation of the world team
tryouts. She
started in goal for the Americans in October's Bowhunter Cup,
holding the Iroquois Nationals to six first-half goals.
Hotaling, a second-year pro with the NLL's Boston Blazers, has
scored seven goals and nine assists in 22 career games. He has also
won 259 of 469 faceoffs (55.2 percent) and scooped 148 career loose
balls. The 26-year-old right-hander is a graduate of Nazareth
University, and a
product of the U.S. Developmental Team.
Morris has played three pro seasons in the NLL, most recently with the Boston Blazers in 2010. The 28-year-old left-hander has scored 14 goals and 30 assists in 16 career pro indoor games. He also scored 67 goals and 80 assists in 44 career MLL games, most recently with the Boston Cannons in 2009. Morris is a 2006 graduate of UMass, where he was named as a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy in his junior and senior seasons.
Smith, who plays defense for the NLL's Philadelphia Wings, has scooped 65 loose balls in 28 career pro indoor games. The 30-year-old right-hander has also appeared in 47 games playing defense in the MLL, where he currently plays for the Rochester Rattlers. The Orchard Park, N.Y., native is a graduate of Towson University.
The team announced 18 players following three Fall tryout/exhibition weekends held in Wayne, N.J., Syracuse, N.Y., and Baltimore, Md. The 2011 World Team roster is headlined by NLL all-stars Casey Powell, Paul Rabil and Max Seibald.
