ACC: ACC Women's Lacrosse Individual Honors Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior Dana Dobbie headlines the 2008 ACC Women's Lacrosse individual postseason honors, as announced by the league office on Friday. The Tewaaraton Trophy finalist and defending 2007 ACC Player of the Year, is recognized alongside Virginia head coach Julie Myers and Duke newcomer Emma Hamm.

Dobbie, who was named a Tewaaraton Trophy for the second year in a row earlier this week, currently leads the country in draw controls with 114, which is a new NCAA single-season record. The midfielder averages 6.00 draw controls per outing and leads the ACC in goals (66), goals per game (3.47), and draw controls this season. She is also second among all league players in points per game (4.11) behind teammate Kelly Kasper. In addition, the Guelph, Ontario product now has 322 draw controls in her four years, another NCAA record. Her 66 goals this season is the sixth-most ever in a single season at Maryland. Dobbie has 14 hat tricks to her name this year in 19 games and was a three-time ACC Player of the Week.

Leading the Cavaliers to a 14-3 overall record this season, Myers picked up her 200th career victory in a 10-9 win over Maryland in the ACC Championship game en route to collecting her second Coach of the Year accolade. Myers became just the fourth Division I coach to reach 200 career wins (currently 200-59; .772) and led Virginia to its 400th program victory, which marks just the third time a team has reached the feat. As the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, Myers and the Hoos will host ACC foe North Carolina in first-round action on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

Duke's Emma HammHamm was one of only two freshmen named to the All-ACC team, which was announced in conjunction with the 2008 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship. In addition, the midfielder was named Womenslax.com Rookie of the Week on March 3 and Womenslacrosse.com Rookie of the Week on March 18. The newcomer currently leads Duke in draw controls (47) and caused turnovers (26) and is second in assists (19) and ground balls (34). The Wayne, Pa. product has been a critical part of the Blue Devils' starting midfield, connecting in transition, winning draws, and causing turnovers.

The Atlantic Coast Conference received four bids to the upcoming NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship for the fourth consecutive year as Virginia secured the league's automatic qualifier and Duke, Maryland and North Carolina were selected on an at-large basis. Eight first-round games will be conducted Sunday, May 11, and four quarterfinal games will be played Saturday, May 17. These preliminary-round games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final May 23 and 25 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md., hosted by Towson University.

The semifinal games will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports Network at 6 and 8:30 p.m. ET, Friday, May 23. The championship game will be broadcast live at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 25. Tickets for the semifinals and final can be purchased by calling 410-704-2244.
