Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team drew a No. 6 seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament and the Hoyas will take on Duke on Sunday, May 11 in a First Round game. The start time is still to be determined.

The Hoyas posted a 12-6 overall record including a 6-2 mark in games decided by one goal. Georgetown's strength of schedule was ranked in the top three according to www.laxpower.com throughout the season.

GU took on 12 ranked teams this season, including No. 1 Northwestern, No. 3 Maryland, No. 4 Virginia, No. 5 Syracuse (twice) and No. 6 Princeton.

Georgetown recorded a 6-1 record at home on the Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas are now 24-6 in home games under fourth-year head coach Ricky Fried.

The Blue and Gray returns to the tournament field of 16 after missing out on the dance last season. Georgetown had advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in eight straight seasons from 1999-2006.

Virginia - Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)
Temple - Atlantic-10 Conference (A-10) |
Syracuse - BIG EAST Conference
Towson - Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)
PennsyIvania - Ivy League

Boston University, the America East Conference winner, topped Northeast Conference (NEC) winner Sacred Heart in one play-in game while Colgate of the Patriot League was victorious over the Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) winner Marist.

Duke (11-7) lost in the ACC semifinals to Virginia, 10-9 on April 25 before the Blue Devils won at Dartmouth, 17-11 last weekend.

Duke edged the Hoyas, 12-11 on March 15 to snap Georgetown's five-game win streak to start the season.
