NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 18/16 Boston University women's lacrosse team played to a 17-7 win Wednesday against No. 10 Vanderbilt, spurred on by a 14-1 run in just over a half of play. Junior Sarah Dalton scored five goals during that time, also assisting on a goal from junior Steph Walker, while senior co-captain Lauren Morton and sophomore McKinley Curro had three goals apiece. Sophomore Erica Baumgartner tied her career highs with five assists and six points and sophomore Rachel Klein made nine saves in goal.
Boston University (3-1, 0-0 AE) put three goals on the board before Vanderbilt scored, including two of Morton's tallies. The Terriers built the lead to 12-1 before the half, scoring twice more after the break before the Commodores collected their second goal of the game.
Vanderbilt scored five of the final six goals of the game to tighten the score after the Terriers built a 16-2 lead, with senior Maggie Curran leading the charge with two of her three goals during that span.
Senior co-captain Molly Collins collected two goals, including one of the Terriers' three free-position goals on four chances. Sophomore Tracy Landi notched two goals to bring her season total to 8, while junior Kelly Munroe led the team with three ground balls, tying her career high, and four caused turnovers.
The Terriers edged Vanderbilt in both shots on goal (26-25) and ground balls (9-8), but the Commodores held a large advantage in draw controls, 18-8.
BU will play its first home game of the season Saturday (March 15) at noon at Nickerson Field, taking on a No. --/17 George Mason team that ranks just above the Terriers in the IWLCA coaches' poll.
