SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill announced Tuesday that the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team signed sportscaster Eric Perkins to a contract subject to league approval.
Perkins is scheduled to make his NLL debut when the Swarm hosts the Chicago Shamrox on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center in its 2007 home opener.
"I am thrilled to be getting an opportunity with this playoff-caliber team. I'll do anything I can to help the Swarm win...anything," Perkins said.
Perkins, a Los Angeles native, joined KARE 11 -- the Twin Cities' NBC affiliate -- as a sports reporter in November 1996. He has participated in a number of sporting events, including lacrosse, hockey, ski-jumping, bullfighting, a demolition derby and baseball as part of his "Perk at Play" segments that air Tuesday nights.
Perkins graduated from Pepperdine University (Seaver College) with a major in broadcasting and will be working out with O'Neill and Swarm players this month to help him prepare for the upcoming season. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound forward is a left-handed shot.
