The International Lacrosse Federation has announced that its 2008 Men's U-19 World Championship will be held in the city of Coquitlam in British Columbia, Canada. The event is scheduled for July 3-12, 2008.

This will be the first ILF U-19 world championship since the United States defeated Canada 19-10 to win the 2003 title in Towson, Md. The event is traditionally held every four years, but the 2000 event in Australia was moved up to 1999 due to the Summer Olympics being held in Sydney in 2000. The next championship was held in 2003 to allow US Lacrosse to host the men's and women's U-19 championships in a joint event.

The ILF U-19 World Championship was first held in 1988 in Adelaide, Australia. The United States has won all five championships conducted and has a perfect 29-0 record in ILF U-19 championship play. The 2003 U.S. team featured 11 players that earned USILA All-America honors playing college lacrosse last season, including Duke's Matt Danowski, who was the MVP of the 2003 ILF U-19 championship.

The 2008 ILF U-19 championship will mark the fourth straight world lacrosse championship hosted by the Canadian Lacrosse Association. The 2006 ILF World Championship will be held in London, Ontario from July 13-22, 2006. The 2007 ILF World Indoor Championship will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from May 14-20, 2007. The 2007 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations U-19 World Championship will be held in Peterborough, Ontario from August 4-12, 2007.

Tryouts for the 2008 U.S. U-19 team will be held in the summer of 2007. Details on the application and nomination process for the team will be posted on the US Lacrosse Web site ( www.uslacrosse.org) as they become available. Players must not turn 19 before Sept. 1, 2007 in order to be eligible for the 2008 U.S. U-19 team.
