U.S. Men's Team Announces Exhibition Schedule

March 6, 2006

BALTIMORE -- US Lacrosse is pleased to announce that the 2006 U.S. men's lacrosse team will play three exhibition games this summer in preparation for the 2006 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship. The schedule includes games against the Irish national team, a Syracuse alumni team and the previously announced game against the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars.

The first game will be held on Sunday, June 25 against Ireland. The game will be played at Radnor High School in the Philadelphia suburbs at 4 p.m. Ireland participated in ILF play for the first time in 2002 and went 5-0 in the Green Division for developing lacrosse nations. This year, Ireland will compete in the Red Division with Hong Kong, Italy, Scotland and Wales.

The U.S. team's second exhibition game will be held on Monday, July 3 against a team of primarily Syracuse alumni. The game will take place at Syracuse University's Coyne Field at 7 p.m. The U.S. team is coached by Syracuse head coach John Desko and includes five former Orangemen--Roy Colsey, Pat McCabe Casey Powell, Michael Powell and Ryan Powell. The team will hold a mini training camp at Syracuse from July 2-5.

The final exhibition before the world championships will be on Thursday, July 6 against the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars. The game will take place at Boston's Nickerson Field on the campus of Boston University at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast by ESPN-2 (broadcast time to be determined).

The U.S. has won six consecutive world championships and will be competing in the Blue Division with Australia, Canada, England, Iroquois Nationals and Japan. Canada will host this year's championships from July 13-22 in Ontario. Canada, which won the 1978 world championship, is the only nation other than the U.S. to have won a championship.

The 23-member U.S. team includes 22 players that are currently on or have been drafted by MLL teams. Joe Walters, a senior at the University of Maryland, is the lone non-MLL player on the U.S. team roster. Complete bios for the U.S. team are available on the US Lacrosse Web site.
