From press releases
The Rochester Knighthawks traded defenseman Jack Reid to the Boston Blazers in exchange for defenseman Kyle Laverty, the teams announced Tuesday.

Reid played 16 games during the past two seasons in the National Lacrosse League for Rochester and recorded four assists last year. He played four years of college lacrosse at UMass where he became the school's first (1st Team) defenseman All-American player. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defenseman played 63 games for UMass from 2003-2006 and has since become a top professional indoor lacrosse prospect. Reid, who hails from Glastonbury, CT, is currently playing in the MLL for the Rochester Rattlers.

"Jack is one of the most promising defenders in the league," said Blazers head coach and general manager Tom Ryan. "He is a dominant force in the MLL and is still learning the indoor game. He is a local product who grew up in Connecticut and played college lacrosse at UMass, so he is a perfect fit for us."

Laverty was on the Blazers roster for less than a week after being selected as the fourth overall pick in the July 24 NLL expansion draft.

The Blazers will play eight home games as part of the NLL's 16-game regular season schedule from January through April 2009 at the TD Banknorth Garden

Reid leaves Rochester after spending back-to-back seasons, collecting four points in 16 total games with the Knighthawks. Last season, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound defenseman notched a NLL career-best four points and 19 penalty minutes in 10 games with Rochester.

A native of Glastonbury, Conn., Reid appeared in six games with Rochester in his first pro season and helped guide the team to its second NLL Champion's Cup during the 2007 campaign.

Reid was originally traded to Boston for the eighth overall pick in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft, however he was reacquired by Rochester in the 2007 Dispersal Draft as Boston opted not to participate in the 2008 NLL season. Reid was the Knighthawks' first-round selection (10th overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft.

Laverty arrives in Rochester after spending a four-year career with the Buffalo Bandits. The 28-year-old defenseman appeared in 16 games last season for the Bandits, earning nine points en route to the 2008 Champion's Cup. He also finished first on the team with a career-high 70 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound defenseman had his best season with Bandits in 2007, capturing a career best 10 points while adding 66 penalty minutes. In 63 career games with the Bandits, Laverty has registered 31 points (8g, 23a) and 233 penalty minutes.

A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Laverty was acquired by Boston in the 2008 Expansion Draft. Laverty was originally obtained by Buffalo prior to the 2004 season in a trade with Calgary for Craig Gelsvik.
