UNC: Breshci Hire Official

by Lacrosse Magazine Online Staff

North Carolina's coaching search is over.

Joe Breschi has resigned at Ohio State to take over at his alma mater. Breschi sent an e-mail to Ohio State lacrosse family and friends last night informing them of his decision.

Breschi led Ohio State to an 11-6 record this season and a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals. UNC fired John Haus despite the Tar Heels making their second straight trip to the NCAA tournament this year. UNC earned a No. 4 seed for the NCAA tournament, but was upset in the first round by Navy.

In his e-mail, Breschi wrote, "I never thought the day would come for [my wife] Julie and I to say [goodbye] to the Ohio State University lacrosse family and athletic department. It's with a heavy heart that I'm writing you this note on behalf of Julie and the girls (daughters Samantha, Abigail and Lucy). We want to thank you for 11 terrific years in Columbus as Buckeyes. Every moment here we've been embraced by the amazing leadership of both [athletic directors] Andy Geiger and Gene Smith, the wonderful administrative staff, the outstanding Alumni group, supportive families and tremendous student athletes who have made our experience in Ohio one we will cherish forever. I thank all of you for that. It was a family decision to make a move and face a new challenge in our life.

"I've accepted an opportunity to return to my alma mater to be the head lacrosse coach at the University of North Carolina.

"Julie and I are forever grateful for the wonderful relationships and experiences that we've shared with the Ohio State lacrosse family, and wish everyone much happiness and success in the future."

An official announcement was made Wednesday by North Carolina. Click here for the story.
