BRANTFORD, Ontario (AP) -A former New York college lacrosse player was charged with killing his ex-girlfriend from the Six Nations reserve in Canada.
Kent Hill, who attended Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y., was arrested after the remains of Tashina General were found last Friday in a shallow grave on the reserve.
Hill appeared in court on Wednesday. Six Nations Police Deputy Chief Rocki Smith said the wooded site where General's body was found is near Hill's home, on property owned by his father.
The 21-year-old General went missing in late January. Hill, who withdrew from school in mid-April, was arrested in a motel in North Bay, Ontario, roughly 500 miles away from the reserve.
General, who was about four months pregnant when she disappeared, was strangled, police said. Her disappearance sparked an investigation on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border, with aerial searches and sweeps with dogs.
Hill played on OCC teams that won 33 consecutive games in 2006-07 and won two junior college national championships. The midfielder scored 33 goals last season and assisted on 54 others and was chosen national midfielder of the year.
He was expected to transfer to Syracuse University last fall but lacked enough credits.
