Grant Wins Player of Month for February

from press release

NEW YORK
- The National Lacrosse League has announced that John Grant Jr. of the Colorado Mammoth has won Player of the Month and Evan Kirk of the Minnesota Swarm has won Rookie of the Month for February.

Grant recorded 11 goals and 11 assists as the Mammoth went 2-1 in February. His best game came when he had three goals and five assists in an 11-7 win over Edmonton on Feb. 4.

Grant, who was also named Player of the Month in January, is the NLL leader with 27 goals and 59 points, putting him more than halfway towards breaking the single-season points record of 115, set by John Tavares in 2001. The Mammoth have played seven games so far with nine regular season games remaining. Colorado is off to a 6-1 start.

Kirk won his first two NLL outings, beating Rochester on Feb 12 and at Washington on Feb. 24. The sixth overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft has now set Swarm records for lowest goals-against average (6.50) and highest save percentage (.873) by a rookie in his first two starts.

Kirk was named NLL Rookie of the Week for the second time on Wednesday after stopping 43 of 50 shots against the Stealth. Minnesota went 3-2 in February.

The monthly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
