Lines Out, Sullivan in as Swarm Head Coach

from press release

SAINT PAUL, Minn.
– The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced that Joe Sullivan will replace Mike Lines as head coach of the team effective immediately.

Sullivan, 42, will continue in his role as associate general manager for the Swarm in addition to his newly appointed title as head coach. The Peterborough, Ontario native joined the Swarm in 2009 as an assistant coach and becomes the fifth head coach in team history. Sullivan has also spent time as an assistant coach in the NLL with the Toronto Rock (2009) and Chicago Shamrox (2008).

As an assistant coach with the Major Series League's (MSL) Peterborough Lakers, Sullivan has helped his team win three Mann Cups over the past six seasons.

"Joe is a great fit for our team as he is a very steady hand who can help our young players get through the highs and lows of a National Lacrosse League season," Swarm Owner and President John Arlotta said. "He has also demonstrated in his roles as associate general manager and defensive coach that he has the organizational and management skills to be a head coach in this league."

Lines, 41, led the Swarm to a 16-22 regular season record from 2010-12 as head coach.

"Mike is a great offensive mind, and was a big reason for the success that we've had in that area over the last few years," Arlotta said. "I fully expect that he will be coaching again in the NLL in the near future and I want to thank him for his contributions to the Swarm and wish him all the best."

Bobby Keast and Aime Caines will continue in their roles as assistant coaches and will comprise Sullivan's staff.

Minnesota (3-3) travels west to face division rival Washington (1-5) on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10 p.m. CT.
