2011 Record: 12-6, lost to Washington in West final
Offseason: NHL's Calgary Flames bought team from Brad Banister
New Roughnecks general manager Mike Board patiently assessed the roster and added one of the sport's most dynamic players in Evans, who was pilfered from Rochester for the No. 5 entry draft spot.
"Shawn Evans is a warrior," Board said on the team's website. "He is a floor general with great vision, he can score and he is a proven champion. Adding a winner to our roster is always important."
Evans (24g, 49a) slides into the 'Necks offense on the right side with Scott Ranger, 2011 NLL Rookie of the Year Curtis Dickson and Cory Conway.
It's a formidable cast, with leading scorer Dane Dobbie (34g, 41a) firing shots from the other side. Calgary trailed only Washington in goals for last season and will be even more potent with the ball in Evans' stick.
The Roughnecks also have 2011 NLL MVP Jeff Shattler cleaning up in transition and top-flight goaltending from Mike Poulin.
"I know Rochester wanted Johnny Powless badly, but to give up what they did to get him, Shawn Evans, who has matured into a big-time game changer, well, that trade was very good for Calgary."
