Knighthawks Name Hasen New Head Coach
from staff reports
The Rochester Knighthawks announced in a press conference Tuesday that Mike "The Haser" Hasen will be its new head coach for the 2011 National Lacrosse League season
Hasen was the assistant coach under Paul Gait the last two years. Rochester had moved Gait to the front office as vice president of lacrosse in June. Gait, whose brother Gary came out of retirement to play for him the last two seasons, will be part of the senior management team for the NLL's Knighthawks and AHL's Americans. Gary Gait has said he will not return to the floor in 2011.
Hasen played nine seasons for the Knighthawks from 1999 to 2007, serving as the captain for five, and culminating in a Champion’s Cup in 2007. Hasen coached the Brampton Excelsiors of Major Series Lacrosse into the playoffs this summer.
Some speculated that former head coach Ed Comeau might return to Rochester after the Orlando Titans folded, but Comeau wound up joining the Colorado Mammoth as an assistant coach.
Hasen will be in good company. The Knighthawks named former head coach Paul Day as an assistant, joining Jason Johnson on staff.
Rochester has reloaded recently with offseason pickups in Jordan Hall (from the Titans in a dispersal draft) and No. 1 entry draft pick Cody Jamieson.
