NLL Preseason: Gajic Hat Trick Paces Mammoth
from press releases
DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth defeated the Washington Stealth, 8-5, Sunday morning in the teams’ first preseason scrimmage of the season. The Mammoth, led by rookie forward Alex Gajic’s hat trick, outscored the Stealth, 4-1, in the second half en route to the victory.
“I felt good out there and I was happy to go play against another team in a closed-door environment,” said Gajic. “It helped eliminate some of the nerves.”
The Mammoth trailed from the outset, and were held scoreless until Gajic’s first goal late in the 2nd quarter. Colorado’s first lead of the game came on a tally from Brian Langtry, the team’s leading scorer from a season ago, to make it 5-4 in the 3rd.
After the Stealth tied the game at five, recently-acquired Chad Culp, and rookies Shaun Dhaliwal and Kevin Unterstein, led Colorado on a 3-0 run in the final quarter to break away from Washington.
“All of the players on our roster got a chance to play,” said Mammoth head coach Bob McMahon. “It was a great opportunity to evaluate individual players, not so much the team as a whole.”
The Mammoth is back in action next Saturday, Dec. 12, as it hosts the Minnesota Swarm in another closed-door scrimmage for the team. Colorado hosts Minnesota at Pepsi Center on Friday, Dec. 18 in a preseason tilt open to the public. Tickets are on sale now at just $10 each for that game.
The Mammoth opens the 2010 regular season on the road against the Washington Stealth on Jan. 9. The home-opener is one week later as Colorado hosts the Edmonton Rush at Pepsi Center on Saturday, Jan. 16. 2010 Mammoth season tickets are on sale now. Tickets for regular season games go on sale Friday, Dec. 18.
