Thorpe Resigns as Knighthawks General Manager
from press release
Rochester Knighthawks President Lewis Staats announced today that he has been contacted by Regy Thorpe and Regy has informed him he will not be returning as general manager for the upcoming season.
"I want to thank Curt Styres and the Knighthawks organization
for giving me the opportunity this past year to learn a new side of
the lacrosse business as General Manager of the Knighthawks. I was
thrilled with the challenge and opportunity the job presented and I
worked extremely hard to make the Knighthawks a better team," said
Regy Thorpe. "I have decided that I will return to my former career
in the insurance business and I look forward to attending
Knighthawks training camp this season, making the team and
returning to action on the floor as a fulltime player."
Thorpe made history last season by becoming the first GM to also
play for his own team. The Knighthawks finished the 2009 season
with a 7-9 record and advanced to the Champion's Cup Playoffs. The
defenseman has played for the K-Hawks since the team's inception in
1995, which spanned 15 seasons and includes two championships (1997
and 2007).
The Knighthawks open their 2010 National Lacrosse League schedule on Saturday, January 9th against the Buffalo Bandits at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
