NLL: Grant, O'Toole Hit Milestones in K-Hawks' Win
from press release
The Rochester Knighthawks (4-3) topped the Boston Blazers (3-4)
Saturday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena by the final of 11-9. The
win moves Rochester one game ahead of the Blazers for third place
in the East Division.
The game remained scoreless throughout most of the first quarter,
as Knighthawks forward Craig Point made the score 1-0 with 11:36
off the clock. Just over two minutes later, forward John Grant
increased the Knighthawks' lead to 2-0.
Boston staged a comeback in the second after being held scoreless
throughout the first period. Two goals by Sean Morris and
additional tallies by forwards Jamie Rooney and Matt Lyons made the
score 4-3 in favor of the Blazers at halftime.
Morris led off the second half with his third goal of the game, but
the Knighthawks quickly retook control of the game. Point, Grant
and Shawn Williams would score the only other third quarter goals,
and Rochester would enter the fourth quarter up 6-5.
A back-and-forth fourth quarter saw Boston tie the game twice.
After Rooney scored to make it 10-9, Grant sealed the deal with a
behind-the-back empty net goal to bring the game to its final score
of 11-9.
In the third quarter, Grant scored with 2:45 remaining to give the
Knighthawks a 6-5 lead. The goal was the 411th of his career, and
moved him ahead of Paul Gait into third place on the league's
all-time goal scoring list, trailing only teammate Gary Gait (628)
and John Tavares (671).
Another Knighthawk also achieved a career milestone, as goaltender
Pat O'Toole notched win number 100 of his Rochester Knighthawks
career. He stopped 41 of 50 shots faced in the contest.
Grant finished with three goals and three assists in the win. Point
added four goals.
Morris led Boston with three goals in the loss. Blazers goaltender
Anthony Cosmo stopped 42 of 52 shots faced in net.
