NLL: Broken Hand Sidelines Mammoth's Gallant
from press release
DENVER – The Colorado Mammoth announced
today that team captain John Gallant has a broken bone in his hand
and is expected to miss up to six weeks. The 31-year-old
defenseman had missed just eight regular-season games in his first
eight years in the National Lacrosse League.
“This is an unfortunate setback for John,” said
Mammoth president, general manager and interim head coach Steve
Govett. “We expect a full recovery, but he will be
missed for at least three games. John is a stalwart on our defense
and will need to lead from the sidelines for a few weeks. We
are excited by our young group of defensemen that will replace him
in the short-term.”
The Brantford, Ontario native has been a member of the franchise
since 2002 when the team was formerly known as the Washington Power
and played its home games in the nation’s capitol.
Gallant led the Mammoth to playoff appearances in all seven seasons
of its existence in Colorado, and to the 2006 Champion’s
Cup.
He is scheduled to have minor surgery later today.
