Rock Goalie Watson Named NLL Player of the Week
from press release
Toronto Rock goalie Bob Watson was named the National Lacrosse League’s Overall Player of the Week for Week 3 of the 2010 NLL Season.
Watson stopped 45 of the total 48 shots against from the previously undefeated Rochester Knighthawks in a 17-3 win. Watson held Rochester to a single goal in the first half and only two more in the second, holding the Knighthawks to their lowest single-game goal total in franchise history.
Watson also won the Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Washington Stealth forward Lewis Ratcliff was named Offensive
Player of the Week. Ratcliff finished a two-game stint with eight
goals, four assists, and six loose balls in the Stealth’s two
victories. On Jan. 22 against Buffalo, Ratcliff tallied two goals,
one assist, and six loose balls with the Stealth winning 13-11. On
Jan. 23 against his former team and defending champion Calgary
Roughnecks, Ratcliff turned in a six-goal, three-assist
performance, including what would turn out to be the game-winning
goal with just 3:22 left in the game of a 16-15 win.
Toronto Rock forward Garrett Billings was voted Rookie of the
Week. Billings had five goals, three assists, and collected two
loose balls, leading all scorers in a 17-3 win over
Rochester. This is the second time in three weeks that he has
won the award.
The Transition Player of the Week was Paul Rabil of the Washington
Stealth. He registered a goal and eight assists (1G, 8A) and picked
up seven loose balls over the weekend, as the Stealth defeated
Buffalo and Calgary. Rabil wins the award for the second time this
season.
The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of
the general managers and head coaches of the league’s 11
member clubs.
