NLL Week 3 Recap: Rock, Stealth Remain Unbeaten

from staff reports

Goalie Tyler Richards helped lead Washington to a 13-11 win over Buffalo on Friday. Counterpart Matt Roik repeated the feat Saturday in a 16-15 win over Calgary to keep the Stealth undefeated at 4-0.

After a stacked weekend of National Lacrosse League action featuring seven games in two nights, the Toronto Rock and Washington Stealth stand alone atop the East and West Divisions, respectively, as the lone remaining undefeated teams.

The Stealth, which relocated to Everett from San Jose in the offseason, is off to a 4-0 start after wins over Buffalo and Calgary.

Toronto improved to 3-0 after drubbing Rochester, 17-3, to take sole possession of first place in the East Divison. Rock owner Jamie Dawick announced at the beginning of the game that for every goal Toronto scored, the Rock would donate $1,000 to World Vision for the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The domination of Rochester reaped a donation of $17,000.

The Colorado Mammoth was also perfect for the weekend, winning back-to-back overtime games at Minnesota and Philadelphia under new bench boss Steve Govett. Govett, the team's general manager, took over head coaching duties this week after firing Bob McMahon.

The Boston Blazers picked up their first win of the 2010 campaign Saturday, defeating the Orlando Titans 13-9, leaving the reeling Buffalo Bandits (0-4) as the only winless team in the league.
