EDMONTON, AB -- The
Washington Stealth (2-0) wasted little time to secure their second
win in a row defeating the Edmonton Rush (0-1) 15-7 at the Comcast
Arena on Friday night. Rhys Duch scored at the 2:48 mark of the
first quarter to give the Stealth the early 1-0 lead, a lead which
the Stealth never relinquished the rest of the game.
Early in the second quarter Dean Hill of the Edmonton Rush scored
to put the Rush back with in one goal, but 30 seconds later Rhys
Duch scored his second of the game and the Stealth took over from
there scoring nine unanswered goals, a period that went for almost
37 minutes of action. Rush newcomer Gavin Prout ended the scoring
drought with 2:25 left in the fourth quarter.
After allowing eight goals in the first half, Rush goalie Matt
Disher was pulled in place for his back-up Brandon Atherton.
Stealth goaltender Matt Roik stood on his head early, denying any
chance for the Rush to tie the game up.
Duch and forward Luke Wiles each had three goals, while Lewis
Ratcliff had 6 points for the Washington Stealth. Corey Small of
the Edmonton Rush scored his first career NLL goal in his first
career game at the 7:56 mark of the opening quarter.
The Edmonton Rush have little time to regroup as they head to
Denver to take on the Colorado Mammoth tomorrow evening at 9 p.m.
Eastern. The Washington Stealth will get set to go for their third
straight win next week as the Buffalo Bandits head to Everett on
Jan. 22.
These two teams will not meet again until April 2, when Washington head to Rexall Place in Edmonton.
