NLL: Knighthawks Ink Evans to Five-Year Deal
from press releases
Rochester Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres
announced today that the team has extended forward Scott
Evans’ contract through the 2014 National Lacrosse League
season.
“Scott Evans has a lot to offer this great game of lacrosse.
He has the heart of a mountain lion and the skills to match,”
said Styres of the five-year extension. “Scott is a leader
with grit, desire, commitment and strength that we are going to
build the Rochester Knighthawks’ foundation
around.”
Evans, 28, enters his sixth season with the Knighthawks and
returns after suffering a season-ending injury in training camp in
2009. The former first-round pick had a career-high 44 goals and
earned an NLL All-Star Game selection the season before his injury.
The Peterborough, Ontario, native expressed his excitement for the
2010 season, which opens on Saturday, January 9th against the
Buffalo Bandits.
“I’m really excited and happy to be in Rochester
for the next five years,” he said. “I love the city and
the fans. I hope to be a big part of bringing more championships
back to Rochester.”
In 2007, he was a key member of the Knighthawks’
Champion’s Cup team. In his career, he has played in 80
regular season games and stands tied for fourth place on the
team’s all-time goals (156) and points list (322). He is also
fifth all-time in assists (166). In 2010, he rejoins his brother
Shawn Evans in the starting lineup.
Blazers Finalize 23-Man Roster
The Boston Blazers today announced the team’s final 23-man
roster for the 2010 season. The professional indoor lacrosse squad
returns 18 members from its inaugural season and welcomes five new
faces in 2010. Among those returning include last year’s
National Lacrosse League MVP Dan Dawson, All-Stars Mitch Belisle
and Anthony Cosmo, and 2009 Blazers scoring leader Daryl
Veltman.
After finishing with a 10-6 record and tying for first in the
NLL’s East Division in the Blazers’ first year, Head
Coach Tom Ryan spent the offseason accumulating new talent in an
effort to bring Boston a championship in 2010. New members of the
Blazers squad include Matt Abbott, a Syracuse graduate and the
team’s third overall draft pick in the 2009 entry draft, Ryan
Hotaling, a standout attackman from Nazareth College, and Mike
Kirk, a defenseman acquired over the summer in exchange for Jason
Bloom.
"We are looking forward to the 2010 season following the success
that we had in our first season as a team,” said Ryan. "With
the new additions to our team and the leadership of Dan Dawson and
Anthony Cosmo, we have put ourselves in a positive position for
this year.”
