Cosmo Named NLL Player of the Week

Boston Blazers goaltender Anthony Cosmo has been named the National Lacrosse Leagues Overall Player of the Week for the games played on the weekend of 10-11 (Week #15 of the regular season). Cosmo held Rochester to a season-low 5 goals in a 10-5 Boston win.

Merrick Thomson won the Offensive award for his efforts in a big win for Philadelphias push towards the playoffs. A pair of Portland players were honored for their efforts in a weekend where the LumberJax won two road games, clinching a home playoff game: Transition Player Scott Stewart and goaltender Matt Disher won the Transition and Defensive awards for the week.

Rhys Duch once again won the Rookie of the Week Award. His five goals and three assists against Colorado not only included the overtime game winner that clinched a playoff berth, but he broke the league record for points scored by a rookie. Duch now has 86 points with one regular season game remaining.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Merrick Thomson, Philadelphia: Scored five goals and three assist for eight points (5G, 3A) and picked up 5 loose balls in the teams 16-14 victory over the Toronto Rock. Thomson's fifth assist was on the game winning goal scored with one minute left to play.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Matt Disher, Portland: 9 Goals Allowed, 36 saves in 11-9 win at Calgary that clinched a playoff berth. Played first 44 minutes of game at Minnesota, 8 GA and 23 saves in 19-14 win at Minnesota. The wins clinched a playoff berth and a home playoff game.

TRANSITION PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Scott Stewart, Portland: In two games played, total of 5G, 2A for 7 points and 10 loose balls in wins at Calgary and at Minnesota. The wins clinched a playoff berth and a home playoff game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Rhys Duch, San Jose: 5G, 3A for 8 points, scored game winning overtime goal in an 11-10 overtime win at Colorado that clinched a playoff berth for San Jose.

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Anthony Cosmo, Boston: made 37 saves on 42 shots faced, only allowing 5 goals in Bostons 10-5 win over Rochester.

The weekly player awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the leagues twelve member clubs.
