Titans Gain Ground in East Division

In a battle between two of the East Division's elites, the New
York Titans pulled within one game of the Buffalo Bandits in the
standings after winning by the score of 11-9 at HSBC Arena on
Saturday night. Titans goaltender Matt Vinc was pivotal in the win
over the Bandits, allowing nine goals and turning away 43 shots. In
his first game-action since February 15, forward Casey Powell led
the Titans with three goals and three assists.
Following an opening quarter that ended in a 2-2 tie, the Titans took control of the second quarter to capture a 6-3 halftime lead. Powell was involved in three of the four second-quarter goals, scoring two times and assisting on a third goal. Fellow forwards Ryan Boyle and Brendan Mundorf added the other two tallies.
After exchanging goals to open the second half, Bandits transition player Mark Steenhuis closed out the third quarter with two consecutive goals to bring the Bandits to within one goal, 7-6. The Bandits managed to tie the game, 8-8, with 4:41 off the clock in the fourth quarter after defenseman Billy Dee Smith scored on a breakaway. The Titans went on to close out the victory by outscoring the Bandits 3-1 over the last ten minutes of action, with Powell's third goal of the game at the 12:34 mark of\the fourth serving as the dagger.
Steenhuis led the Bandits with four goals and an assist. Goaltender Mike Thompson stopped 29 shots for the Bandits while allowing 11 goals.
