BRADENTON, Fla. — Spring was in the air in Bradenton, Fla., as a trio of U.S. teams squared off against Canadian and college squads to open the 2016 lacrosse season at IMG Academy.

Team USA Spring Premiere included a clinic for local youth players Saturday featuring several U.S. men's and women's senior team stars, the nightcap for which was an impressive 22-6 U.S. women's team victory over Florida, the No. 10-ranked team in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20.

Sunday's action started with two more Team USA blowouts — the women finishing off a weekend sweep with a 19-8 win over No. 3-ranked Syracuse and the men dominating defending NCAA champion and No. 2-ranked Denver 22-6 in head coach John Danowski's debut — to set the stage for a riveting finale in which Canada outlasted the U.S. 14-13 in overtime, perhaps a preview of what's to come this summer at the FIL U19 World Championship in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
