Sieverts, Burke Pick Up Week 1 MLL Awards
from press release
BOSTON -- Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending April 29, 2012, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Denver Outlaws midfielder Jeremy Sieverts was named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week while Boston Cannons goalkeeper Jordan Burke earned MLL Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Sieverts scored four goals, including a pair of two-point markers, and added an assist as the Outlaws spoiled the Charlotte Hounds’ Major League Lacrosse debut with a 21-12 decision at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. While becoming the eighth player in Denver history to record more than one two-point goal in the same game, he led an Outlaws offense that matched a team record by scoring four two-point goals.
Sieverts, who was acquired in an off-season trade from the Chesapeake Bayhawks, had tallied just six points in his career prior to Saturday’s seven-point performance.
It is the first time Sieverts has been named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week in his career.
