BOSTON, Mass. -- Led by four goals from attackman Jake Beebe, the Boston Cannons (1-0) began the defense of their Major League Lacrosse championship by earning a convincing 15-3 victory over the Rochester Rattlers (0-1) in front of 9,174 fans at Harvard Stadium on Saturday evening.

Prior to the game, the Cannons unfurled their 2011 MLL championship banner after winning the first title in the team's 11-year history last August.

Looking to spoil the Cannons' celebration, the Rattlers took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minute of the first quarter with goals from attackman Kevin Leveille and midfielder Steve DeNapoli.

However, the Rattlers were held scoreless for the next 35 minutes as Boston scored 11 straight goals to take a commanding 11-2 lead early in the third quarter. Beebe scored all four of his goals during the run while midfielder Paul Rabil tallied two of his three goals.

With 8:19 left in the third quarter, Greg Rogowski finally ended the Rattlers' drought by scoring a power-play goal, but the Cannons answered with goals from Ari Sussman and defenseman Kyle Sweeney to extend their lead to 13-3.

Sussman and Rabil each scored in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as the Cannons held Rochester to just five shots on goal in the final period.

While Beebe earned Bud Light Game MVP honors in his Boston debut, Rabil tallied three goals with five assists as the Cannons outshot Rochester by a 50-37 margin.

Boston goalkeeper Jordan Burke made 17 saves, including 11 in the second half, while Rochester goalkeeper John Galloway had 12 saves in a losing effort.
