Bayhawks Name Resch Defensive Coordinator

from press release

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse announced Thursday that Tony Resch will join head coach Dave Cottle's coaching staff as the defensive coordinator. Resch brings a great deal of coaching experience from both the MLL and the National Lacrosse League.

"Brendan Kelly's vision is to get the best employees, players, and coaches and build the best franchise in the MLL," Cottle said. "You build an organization through hard working and committed people who are all working towards a common goal. Once I accepted the coaching job, my first call was to attempt in securing Coach Resch as my defensive coordinator."

From 1994 to 2001 Resch was the head coach of the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL where he led the team to four championships. Resch was presented with the NLL Coach of the Year award in 2001 and in 2008 was inducted into the NLL Hall of Fame.

Resch's MLL coaching career began in 2003 as an assistant coach with the former Baltimore Bayhawks. He won back-to-back MLL championship titles in 2006 and 2007 with the Philadelphia Barrage. During his stint with the Barrage, Resch was named the 2006 Warrior MLL Coach of the Year. Resch was picked up by the Denver Outlaws in 2011 and under his leadership as defensive coordinator, the franchise set a record for least goals allowed in a single season (123).

"I am very excited to join the staff of Coach Cottle for the 2012 MLL season," Resch stated. "I have been on the opposite bench many times to coach against the Bayhawks in recent years, and I have always been impressed by the talent and work ethic of the players and staff. It will be an honor and a privilege to be a part of this great organization, and I look forward to helping the team achieve its goal of a 2012 MLL championship."

A Yale University graduate, Resch boasts two-time All-American and three-time All-Ivy League honors. The defenseman saw six seasons of play during his career in NLL as a defenseman, serving as team captain for three of those seasons. Resch was also a member of the MILL Champion Philadelphia Wings in 1989.

The defense standout has international lacrosse experience as both a player and a coach, having won a gold medal at the World Lacrosse Championship in Perth, Australia in 1990. In 2010, Resch was named as an assistant coach for Team USA's defending gold medalists.

Resch is currently the athletic director at La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pa., where he also serves as the school's defensive coordinator.
