Cottle Officially Tabbed Bayhawks Assistant
from press release
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Chesapeake Bayhawks owner and head coach Brendan Kelly announced today that renowned college lacrosse coach and current Bayhawks president, Dave Cottle has agreed to increase his role with the organization as an assistant coach for the 2011 season.
"I have a great respect for Dave and his abilities as a leader in the office and on the field," Kelly said. "His expertise in coaching will help us to defend our title and take home the Steinfeld Trophy again this summer."
Named president of the Bayhawks in January, Cottle has brought a fresh perspective on leading the organization to new heights through prominent sponsorships and increased season ticket sales. Cottle's experience as a prominent college lacrosse coach will be an asset to the Bayhawks' success this season.
"My job is to help with whatever Brendan needs within this organization," Cottle stated. "I am more than willing to do whatever it takes to help the Bayhawks grow and win another MLL Championship. I am excited to get back on the field this summer and help to coach an incredible group of lacrosse players."
A Salisbury University graduate, Cottle spent 19 years coaching at Loyola College, leading the men's lacrosse team to 181 wins and 14 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. In 2001 Cottle was named the men's lacrosse head coach at the University of Maryland where he remained through the 2010 season. During that time, the Terrapins saw 99 victories and 8 consecutive NCAA playoff appearances.
In 2010, Cottle acted as a consultant for the Bayhawks and helped the team in scouting and evaluating talent. His knowledge helped bring the Bayhawks out of a 5 game losing streak to win a 2010 MLL Championship.
