Cottle's New Gig: Bayhawks President
from press release
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have announced today that former University of Maryland men’s lacrosse Head Coach Dave Cottle has been named President of the team according to owner Brendan Kelly. The announcement was made Saturday during a press conference held at the Fairfield Inn in Baltimore.
Cottle joined the Bayhawks as a consultant in July of 2010 after Kelly took over as head coach. Cottle’s expertise in scouting and evaluating talent proved to be an asset to the team and helped bring the Bayhawks out of a five-game losing streak and win a 2010 MLL Championship.
“As I said when we first brought Dave Cottle to the team, we have a long standing and great relationship,” Kelly said. “I am confident that Dave will make an excellent president. He has proven to be an asset to the Bayhawks, and we are fortunate to have someone like Dave dedicate his time and knowledge to our team.”
A Salisbury University graduate, Cottle spent 19 years coaching at Loyola College, leading the men’s lacrosse team to 181 wins and 14 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. In 2001 Cottle was named the men’s lacrosse head coach at the University of Maryland where he remained through the 2010 season. During that time, the Terrapins saw 99 victories and eight consecutive NCAA playoff appearances.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to continue
working with the Bayhawks and Brendan Kelly,” Cottle said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with the players, coaches
and front office staff last summer. I think it is very important to
get the community behind the Bayhawks and Brendan through
generating sponsorships and season ticket sales, because Brendan
has given so much back to the community through his dedication of
time and resources. I am confident that I can help do just that for
the team this year.”
The Bayhawks look to utilize Cottle to help them harness the momentum from the 2010 championship and dive head first into the 2011 MLL season.
