MLL's 10th Season Features Playoff Rematches
from press release
Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse
league, announced the release of its official 2010 game schedule
Tuesday, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. The
league’s 10th-anniversary schedule features 36 regular season
games between the six MLL teams, along with pre-season training
camps and special events. Training camps will begin Saturday,
April 24 2010 and the first weekend of the regular season starts
Saturday, May 15.
“We are very excited to release the 2010 schedule,”
said Gross. “Building off of a successful 2009 campaign, the
summer of 2010 offers fans another summer of the best lacrosse in
the world. Last summer we saw more milestones, as the Denver
Outlaws again broke the attendance record with 21,952 fans on July
4 and the Toronto Nationals captured the Steinfeld Cup for being
league champions in their first season of play.”
This summer’s slate of action features several premier
matchups and big-time events. In Week 1, the defending MLL
champion Toronto Nationals begin their title defense on the road
against the Chicago Machine. Despite finishing in last place in the
league last summer, the Machine was able to pick up one of its wins
against Toronto – a 24-19 shootout on July 4, 2009. In
the other season openers, the Long Island Lizards will head to
Annapolis to take on the Washington Bayhawks, while the Denver
Outlaws will open on the road against Boston at Harvard Stadium in
a rematch of one of last year’s MLL semifinals.
There will be plenty of other exciting playoff rematches from 2009
MLL Championship Weekend throughout the 2010 season. In Week
3, the Toronto Nationals will visit INVESCO Field at Mile High in
Denver in a rematch of the championship game from a year ago.
The Outlaws will be looking for vengeance after falling for the
second consecutive season in the title game. More rematches
from the semifinals will take place in Week 5 when Denver visits
Boston again and in Week 11 when Long Island hosts Toronto.
On Thursday, July 8, the MLL’s best and brightest stars will
once again be on display in the MLL All-Star Game, which will be
held this summer at Harvard Stadium in Boston at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Since 2010 is a year of the World Lacrosse Championships, the
format of the game will pit the U.S. Men’s National Team
versus the MLL All-Stars. Twenty-two of the 23 members of the
U.S. Men’s National Team have MLL experience. At
halftime, the Bud Light Skills Competition will once again provide
the fans with exciting entertainment and skills shown off during
competitions such as fastest shot and freestyle trick-shot.
The MLL’s historic 10th season will conclude once again in
beautiful Annapolis, Md., with the Championship Weekend taking
place over the weekend of Aug. 20-22. Starting Friday, there
will be opportunities for fans to enjoy Annapolis and all of the
exciting events offered around Championship Weekend. On
Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, there are two
semifinal matchups – at 12 and 3 p.m. – and the MLL
Championship Game is Sunday at 1 p.m. (all times Eastern).
Admission for all three games is only $30 per person. Fans
will also be offered discounted rates at several area hotels,
including the official hotel of Championship Weekend, the Loews
Hotel Annapolis. More details about all aspects of
Championship Weekend will be available in the near future at
www.majorleaguelacrosse.com.
Each team wraps up its 12-game regular season on Saturday, Aug. 7,
2010. There is a bye week for every club during the first
weekend of the 2010 ILF World Championships -- the weekend of
Saturday, July 17. Following the regular season, there is
also a week off before the four playoff teams compete in
Championship Weekend. The date of the MLL Collegiate Draft
changes from its typical mid-week spot of years past to take place
on Sunday, June 6, 2010.
