Denver Coasts Past Toronto, 15-8

from press releases

The Toronto Nationals fell 15-8 to the Denver Outlaws Saturday night at INVESCO Field. The Nationals, now 4-2, were unable to rally off a fourth quarter spark and drop from first place in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) for the first time this season.  Toronto is now tied with the Long Island Lizards for second.

Merrick Thomson extended his lead as top goal scorer for the Toronto Nationals adding three to tonight's decision. Colin Doyle, Jordan Levine, Jordan Hall, Geoff Snider and Jeff Zywicki each added one.

Toronto's rookie goaltender Doc Schneider played all 60 minutes in net for the Nationals turning away 20 of Denver's 35 shots on net.

Snider won 15-of-26 faceoffs for Toronto against Denver's Shane Walterhoefer.

The Denver Outlaws (5-1) were led by Matt Brown with four goals and Brendan Mundorf with three. Drew Westervelt and Jeff Sonke added two, and Nate Watkins, Max Seibald, Brian Langtry, and Dan Hardy put one each toward the total.

Jesse Schwartzman recorded the win in the Outlaws allowing eight of 25 Toronto attempts. Schwartzman earns Bud Light MVP honours for his performance in Denver's net.
The Nationals head into the second half of the 2009 MLL regular season with a busy week. On Thursday, June 25 the Nationals travel to Boston to play the Cannons for the first time this season. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. ET at Harvard Stadium; the game will be shown live on TSN2 and ESPN2.
