Player of the Week

Hollis Perticone, Darien (Conn.)

Perticone, a four-year starter in both field hockey and lacrosse, capped her high school career with another state championship with the Blue Wave. It's her third girls lacrosse title in four years. She totaled nine goals and three assists in two games last week, including five goals and one assist in a 12-6 win over Cheshire in the state semifinals. Perticone is slated to play collegiately at NCAA Division III school Middlebury in Vermont. Perticone tallied three goals and two assists in the first half of the state championship game against Glastonbury.

Northeast Region Top 10

1. Manhasset (N.Y.), 19-1

Manhasset's season is complete. The Indians claimed the Class B state title with an 11-7 win over Victor (N.Y.). The Indians return a good core of talent for next season, including rising senior attacker Lindsey Ronbeck (Florida). Ronbeck had 67 goals and 11 assists this season.

2. Darien (Conn.), 21-2

The Blue Wave claimed the Class L state title with a 13-9 win over previously unbeaten Glastonbury (Conn.). Darien claimed its third state title in four years. The Blue Wave entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, while Glastonbury was No. 1. Hollis Perticone recorded four goals and two assists and Dillon Schoen added four goals and one assist in the win. Darien topped Cheshire (Conn.), 12-6, in the state semifinals earlier in the week.

3. Skaneateles (N.Y.), 22-1

The Lakers' season is complete after they claimed their first Class C state title since 2006 two weeks ago.

4. West Genesee (N.Y.), 20-1

It was a neck-and-neck race for Section III (Syracuse area supremacy) all season between Skaneateles and West Genesee. Both claimed state titles. The Wildcats won the Class A state title two weeks ago.

5. St. Anthony's, 14-3

The Friars' season is complete. They won their fifth straight CHSAA championship.

6. Westwood (Mass.), 24-0

A year after losing 10-7 in the state championship game to Notre Dame Academy (Mass.) last year, the Wolverines can once again call themselves state champions. Westwood capped a perfect season with a 9-7 win over Longmeadow (Mass.) in the Division I state final. The Wolverines advanced to the final with a 14-4 win over North Andover (Mass.) in the semifinals. Senior Ela Hazar finished with three goals in the state final as the Wolverines claimed their third state title in four years under coach Leslie Frank.

7. West Islip (N.Y.), 22-1

The Lions capped one of the best years in program history with a berth in the Class A state championship game. They dropped a 15-10 decision to West Genesee two weeks ago.

8. Victor (N.Y.), 19-3

The Blue Devils completed their best season in program history with a runner-up finish in Class B. Victor's historic season included a pair of wins over traditional Section V powerhouse Brighton (N.Y.), which owns a record 13 sectional titles in 17 years.

9. Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.), 14-6

The Seahawks rebounded from a mid-season funk by advancing all the way to the Class C state title game two weeks ago.

10. Suffern (N.Y.), 16-4

The Mounties, who handed Darien one of its two losses this season, lost in the Class A state semifinals for the second consecutive season two weeks ago. Suffern graduates just one player.

News and Notes

Pinkerton Academy (N.H.) claimed the New Hampshire Division I state title with a thrilling 13-12 win over Souhegan (N.H.) last week. The Astros (18-3) avenged a 14-13 regular-season loss to the Sabers (18-3).

Newburyport (Mass.) claimed the Massachusetts Division II state title with a 7-6 win over Bromfield. Senior Alexandra Peffer scored with 20 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Clippers (16-4) a 7-6 lead. Both teams were scoreless in the second half. Newburyport started the season 0-3.
