Game of the Week
Westwood (Mass.) at Notre Dame Academy (Mass.), May 14
NDA faces one of the most difficult weeks of the season as it will meet three teams with a combined two losses. Before meeting Westwood on Wednesday, the Cougars play at Duxbury (Mass.) (13-1) on Monday. NDA closes the week with a game at Needham (Mass.) (14-1). Needham handed Duxbury its only loss of the season. All four teams are Massachusetts Division I teams. NDA went 24-2 last season en route to the Division I state championship, the first in program history. Westwood topped NDA, 7-4, in the regular season. The Cougars defeated the Wolverines, 10-7, in the state playoffs.

2. Mount Sinai (N.Y.), 15-0
The Mustangs, winners of 35 straight, went 3-0 last week. Mount Sinai topped Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.), 12-9, defeated Islip (N.Y), 19-6, and closed the week with an impressive 11-6 win over Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.). CBA is the defending Class B state champion. Shayna Pirreca tallied 15 goals and an assist in the three wins. Mount Sinai closes the regular season on Tuesday at Miller Place (N.Y.).
3. Garden City (N.Y.), 11-3
The Trojans closed the regular season with a 14-9 win over St. Anthony's (N.Y.) and a 15-5 win over Plainedge (N.Y.). Haley O'Hanlon finished with eight goals and two assists in the two wins for Garden City.
4. West Islip (N.Y.), 15-0
The Lions continued their perfect season with wins over Sachem East (N.Y.), 16-5, and Hauppauge (N.Y.), 12-11 in overtime. Grace Davidson scored off a feed from Vanessa Costantino 20 seconds into the third overtime to lift the Lions over Hauppauge. West Islip's Emily Piciullo tied the game at 11-11 with 54 seconds left in the second OT. West Islip finishes the regular season on Wednesday at Middle Country (N.Y.).
5. Darien (Conn.), 11-2
The Blue Wave went 2-1 last week, earning wins over Trumbull (Conn.) and Wilton (Conn.) Suffern (N.Y.) stopped Darien, 9-8. Emily Stein scored five goals to help Darien claim the FCIAC league title. Darien faces Fairfield Warde (Conn.) this week.
6. Brighton (N.Y), 12-2
The Barons rebounded from their first losses of the season with wins over Rush-Henrietta (N.Y.) and Canandaigua (N.Y.). Lauren Smolensky finished with nine goals and seven assists, and McKenzie Harris added six goals and four assists in the two wins. Brighton finishes the regular season with challenging games against Baldwinsville (N.Y.) and surging Irondequoit (N.Y.).
7. Suffern (N.Y.), 12-3
The Mounties closed out the regular season with a busy 4-0 week that included wins over Clarkstown South (N.Y.), Clarkstown North (N.Y.), North Rockland (N.Y.), and Darien (Conn.). Suffern topped North Rockland (12-3), 17-6, and then earned a 7-6 win over Darien.
8. St. Anthony's (N.Y.), 12-3
The Friars have impressive wins this spring over Vero Beach (Fla.), Suffern (N.Y.), and Georgetown Visitation (D.C.). The Friars went 2-1 last week, getting past Kellenberg (N.Y.) and Our Lady of Mercy (N.Y.), while dropping a 12-6 decision to top-ranked Manhasset. St. Anthony's closes out its regular season against St. John the Baptist (N.Y.) this week.
9. Notre Dame Academy (Mass.), 12-1
The Cougars rebounded from their first loss of the season with a pair of wins over Norwell (Mass.) and Ursuline Academy (Mass.). It's a tough call for the top team in Massachusetts, but the picture will get a little clearer when NDA faces Duxbury (12-1), Westwood (13-0), and Needham (14-1) this week.
10. West Genesee (N.Y.), 14-1
The Wildcats, whose sole loss this season is to Skaneateles (N.Y.), earned wins over Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.) and Liverpool (N.Y.). Hannah Elmer totaled five goals and seven assists in the two wins. West Genny closes out its regular season at Oswego (N.Y.) this week.
It's getting tougher and tougher every week to leave Skaneateles out of the regional rankings. A year after going 19-3 and losing in the Class C state championship game to Mount Sinai, the Lakers are now 15-1 this season. Their only loss this season is to John Carroll (Md.) on April 17. Since then, the Lakers have won seven straight and have only been held in single digits in a 7-6 double overtime win over West Genesee. Skaneateles topped Westhill (N.Y.) and Marcellus (N.Y.) last week. Freshman sensation Kyla Sears had five goals and five assists and Hannah Powers added six goals in a 17-7 win over Marcellus. The Lakers close the regular season on Wednesday with a game at Jordan-Elbridge (N.Y.).
It's really difficult to sort out the final spot in the weekly regional rankings with a plethora of strong teams such as Skaneateles (N.Y.), Westwood (Mass.), Victor (N.Y.), Penfield (N.Y.), Needham (Mass.), Duxbury (Mass.), Honeoye Falls-Lima (N.Y.), and Shaker (N.Y.) each having strong cases for inclusion.
