Who is your favorite athlete?
Chase Utley. He's dedicated, hard-working and the best hitter in
Major League Baseball. Plus, he's cute.
What's one thing you can't live without?
My parents. My mom's always taking me to practice, and my dad's
always willing to come outside and practice with me.
Where did you go on your last vacation?
West Palm Beach, Fla., with my family. Lots of swimming in the
ocean and hanging out at the resort.
It's 2020 — where are you and what are you
doing?
Hopefully graduated from Rutgers, teaching and coaching back at
Shawnee. I'd like to have a place on the shore and maybe a little
surf shop. I've been surfing for about three years. My aunt and
uncle taught me. It's all about patience and timing.
Proudest moment of your lacrosse career?
Beating Moorestown this past season. I had the game-winner. I had
the ball on the top of the 8. I'm a righty and I was on the right,
but I ducked under my defender lefty and shot high left. I saw it
go in and I was like, "Oh my gosh, that did not just happen."
Do you have any pregame rituals?
Kierstan Smith and I spin off each other's backs and slap sticks.
And the seniors write a poem every year that we say in the team
pregame huddle. And then in the starter huddle, we recite a prayer:
"Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, bless this field that we play on.
Help us win, help us play, help us do our best today. One, two,
three — Shawnee!"
What's your favorite moment of a lacrosse
game?
Draw ball, because you never know where it's going to go.
Overtime (from Ryan Powell, attackman, Team
USA):
If you weren't playing lacrosse, what other sport would
you be playing?
Basketball. I'm a point guard. I like the San Antonio Spurs. I was
glad to see Duke win the NCAA basketball championship this year,
because my mom-mom babysat Brian Zoubek when he was little.
Double Overtime (from Pete Shulman, Wilmington,
N.C.)
Who's your favorite lacrosse player?
Michelle Tumolo from Syracuse. Her style's just amazing.
