BALTIMORE – US Lacrosse has announced
that Krystin Porcella, a former U.S. U-19 team assistant coach and
the current head coach at The John Carroll School (Md.), will serve
as the head coach for the U.S. U-19 women’s lacrosse team
that will compete in the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse
(FIL) World Championship in Göttingen, Germany.
Porcella was an assistant coach for the 2007 U.S. team that won
the International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations
(one of two organizations that merged to form the FIL) World
Championship in Ontario, Canada.
Porcella has had a successful career as a high school lacrosse
coach at John Carroll, winning the 2007 and 2008 Interscholastic
Athletic Association of Maryland conference championships and
earning Coach of the Year honors for both of those seasons. Prior
to coaching at John Carroll, Porcella served as assistant coach at
her alma mater, Loyola University (Md.) from 2000-2004. Porcella
also serves on several boards including the Greater Baltimore
Chapter of US Lacrosse and Lax for Leukemia. She is also a
certified US Lacrosse Level 1 Coaching Education Program
trainer.
“US Lacrosse and our Women’s Division Board of
Governors are very enthusiastic about the appointment of Krystin
Porcella as the 2011 U.S. U19 women’s national team head
coach,” said Ann Kitt Carpenetti, Women’s Division
director for US Lacrosse. “We feel very confident that
Krystin is the right person to lead our quest to win the gold
again.”
"I am truly honored to be selected as the U.S. U19 head
women’s lacrosse coach by US Lacrosse,” said Porcella.
“The experience of being an assistant coach of the 2007 gold
medal team was a truly special experience and I look forward to
maintaining that high level of lacrosse. We have a great challenge
in front of us as we set our goal on winning the 2011 FIL gold
medal, and I am very excited to start putting the pieces together
to accomplish that goal. Over the next couple of months we will be
working hard putting together the best coaching staff and talent to
represent the United States in Germany in 2011."
The U.S. U19 women’s national lacrosse team won gold in the
prior three IFWLA World Cups in 2007, 2003 and 1999. The
program’s only loss was in its inaugural outing at the IFWLA
World Cup in 1995, where U.S. fell runner-up to Australia with a
score of 5-4.
US Lacrosse is now soliciting applications for the assistant
coaches for the 2011 team. Individuals who wish to apply should
