No. 2 West Chester Bounces Back Against Slippery Rock
from press release
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Seniors Lauren Glassey and Jacquie Burke each scored four goals, and classmate Tori Dugan scored three times and assisted on six others, as host West Chester defeated visiting Slippery Rock, 21-4, on Senior Day at Vonnie Gros Field Saturday.
West Chester (10-1, 7-0 PSAC) bounced back from its first defeat of the season and remained unbeaten in league play with the win over Slippery Rock (4-7, 1-6).
On Senior Day, all 10 of West Chester's seniors got the starting nod from head coach Ginny Martino, and Burke did not disappoint. She scored a career-high four goals, including three straight in a stretch that spanned halftime. Her second goal of the game, with 1:41 left in the half, gave West Chester an 11-2 lead. She then opened the second half with two straight tallies in the first four minutes to pace the Golden Rams to a 13-2 advantage.
Glassey scored three times in the first half and one more time in the second half. In all, West Chester's senior class accounted for 17 of the team's 21 goals.
Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Sward (1-0) picked up the win in the cage for the hosts. She made two saves in 54 minutes of action. Jess Henderson came on in relief and made one save over the final six minutes.
West Chester now embarks on one of its toughest three-game road trips in recent memory. The Golden Rams travel to No. 1 LIU-Post in a rematch of last year's national championship game. Then, the road warriors head to Western PA for two games against arch-rival and nemesis Lock Haven, before heading to Indiana (Pa.). Both Lock Haven and IUP are undefeated on the season and tied for first place with the Rams.
