from press release
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Mairead McGuirk (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) recorded seven draw controls as the fifth-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team dominated the draw circle in a 13-3 victory over Ursinus College on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Clark Field.
Gettysburg (12-1, 6-0 CC) won 15-of-18 draw attempts overall, including an 11-1 edge in the opening half alone. The decided advantage in possession spelled a 10-1 lead on the scoreboard in the first half.
Ursinus (4-8, 1-4 CC) pulled to 2-1 on a goal by Megan Horney at 25:33. Just 32 seconds later, senior Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) turned in the first of nine consecutive goals by the hosts. Robinson tallied three goals in the run, while junior Bailey Beardsley (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) each posted two.
Gettysburg's lead reached 11 (13-2) on an unassisted goal by junior Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) with 12:07 left in the game.
Robinson finished with three goals and two assists for the Bullets. Junior Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) joined Beardsley and Kenny with two goals, while Markiewicz added two assists to go along with her score.
McGuirk finished on draw control shy of her career high. She posted eight draw controls against Salisbury during the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Senior Kat Nestor (Darien, Conn./Darien) scooped up three ground balls and junior Paige McKenna (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) posted two ground balls and one caused turnover. Freshman goalie Lindsay Clinton (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) recorded five saves in the victory.
Gettysburg returns to action with a non-conference match up with Catholic University on Wednesday, April 17, at 4:30 on Clark Field.
