No. 19 St. John Fisher Ousts Oneonta

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Oneonta 12-8 Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. It was the Cardinals' first win against a SUNYAC opponent this season, as they improve to 5-2 on the year. Oneonta falls to 4-2 with the loss.
After the Red Dragons scored the game's first goal just over one minute in, but it would be the team's only lead as the Cardinals went on a four-goal tear to make it 4-1. Emily Bryerton evened things up at 1s when she caused a turnover on the clear and took the ball home for the unassisted score.
Sam Barton then tallied back-to-back, before Bryerton netted a free position shot.
The Red Dragons fought back, tying the game at 4-4 with three-straight goals, but Fisher scored the half's last two to head into the locker room with a 6-4 lead.
Oneonta scored the first goal of the second half, making it 6-4 just 27 seconds in, but Fisher was able to answer with two goals just 20 seconds apart. After forcing another Oneonta turnover on the clear, Kristen Zylka brought the ball down with speed before dishing off to Barton for a goal. Barton then added her fourth goal of the day off a feed from Taylor Hughes, giving Fisher an 8-5 lead.
Bryerton completed the hat trick at the 20:43 mark of the second half to give Fisher a four-goal lead at 9-5, its largest margin of the day. Though the Red Dragons would bring the game within two at 10-8, they were never able to regain the advantage.
Barton led the Cardinals with four goals, while Erin Ward totaled four points on three goals and an assist. Bridget Alberts and Melissa Leonhard each had a goal, while Zylka, Sierra Badger, Taylor Hughes andChrissy Cook all had an assist.
Caroline Trpcevski finished with seven saves between the pipes, picking up her fourth win of the year.
On Wednesday, the Cardinals will travel to the College at Brockport for a 4 p.m. contest against head coachLinda Michele's former team.
