Halle Storm: No. 4 Middlebury Waxes Wesleyan

Middletown, Conn. -- Undefeated and fourth-ranked Middlebury got six goals from top scorer Ellen Halle, while Alice Pfeifer added two goals and three assists and Michaela Colbert chipped in with three goals and an assist as the visiting Panthers came away with an 18-5 conference victory over Wesleyan. Middlebury improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the NESCAC while Wesleyan dropped to 2-4, 0-4 in league action.

The Cardinals drew first blood in the contest as Kayla Ellman picked up the first of her two goals on a run down the left side with a bouncer that eluded Alyssa Palomba 6:14 into the contest. The Panthers then rattled off seven straight goals in a span of 12:05 to open up a 7-1 lead en route to a 9-2 halftime edge. Halle had a hat trick during the span and finished the first half with four goals. S he now has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points on the year.

When Middlebury added the opening three goals of the second half, the Panthers held a 12-2 lead. Halle had one of the goals while Pfeifer had a goal and assist in the first three minutes of period two. Middlebury pumped home eight of the final 11 goals over the last 27 minutes.

Cardinal keeper Nina Labovich amassed 11 saves in the contest, while Palomba had just one save while yielding four Wesleyan markers. Wesleyan's Madeline Kinker logged her first action in net this season for Middlebury and had three saves with one goal allowed over the final 9:20.

Middlebury controlled the draws by taking 21 of 25 in the game. Catherine Fowler, who took most of the draws for Middlebury, also had a team high six controls. Middlebury maintained a 34-11 margin in total shots.

Wesleyan returns to action Thurs., March 28, hosting Dominican (NY) in a non-league contest. Middlebury travels to #5 Gettysburg for a game on Monday.
