Polar Bears Open Season with Eight Straight Goals; Hold off Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team sprinted to an 8-0 lead and held on for an 8-5 win over Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (1-0) were led by four goals from Carolyn Gorajek in the win. Isabel Sippel stopped 15 shots in net for Bowdoin. Bri Miller paced Connecticut College with a three-goal, one-assist effort.
Bowdoin took command early with six goals in the first 7:28 of the contest. Gorajek scored three goals in the surge with Lindsay Picard, Taylor Wilson and Mackenzie Schleicher also adding markers. Gorajek capped the half with a goal at the 7:52 mark of the period to give the hosts a 7-0 lead at intermission.
The Polar Bears opened the second half with a score from Jordan Smith to extend its lead to eight goals. The Camels scored five times in the final 26 minutes, including twice in the final 57 seconds to close the final gap to 8-5.
Caitlin Cataldo made 17 stops for Conn. College. Bowdoin was led by five ground balls from Taylor Wilson, who also won three draw controls. Lindsay Picard won four draw controls for the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears will return to action at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the University of New England.
