TCNJ Secures Second Straight NJAC Title

from press release

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team secured the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference title as the Lions handed Montclair State University a 22-8 defeat on Tuesday.

The win put the sixth-ranked Lions at 4-0 in NJAC play with one conference game remaining, but TCNJ has already locked up the spot. Overall, the Lions are 11-2. TCNJ has also won 11 straight conference games dating back to the 2010 season.

The loss dropped the Red Hawks to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) had a huge game for the Lions as she finished with a career-high 10 points on six goals and four assists. Junior Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) continued her hot streak with six goals and two assists as she has racked up 24 points, including 22 goals, in the last three games.

Senior Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) contributed with four goals and two assists. With those three goals, Notos moved into sole possession of seventh place on the program's all-time list with 193. That total puts her seven shy of becoming only the sixth player in program history to score at least 200 goals.

Senior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added to her historic season with two goals and three assists, becoming the only player in program history to record 200 assists raising her total to 201.

Junior Trenna Hill (Syracuse, NY/Lafayette) also got in on the scoring with two goals and one assist.

The 22 goals was a season high for the Lions.

In goal, Kelsey Zinck (Burke, VA/James W. Robinson) finished with six saves for her 11th win of the season.

TCNJ hosts top-ranked Salisbury University on Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in Lions' Stadium.
