No. 1 Gettysburg Smokes Muhlenberg

from press release

GETTYSBURG, Pa.
– Neither the weather nor visiting Muhlenberg College could stop the top-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team on Saturday as the Bullets tied a season high for goals as part of a 22-5 victory in a Centennial Conference showdown at Clark Field.

Despite a consistent, clinging rain falling throughout Saturday's match up, Gettysburg (6-0, 2-0 CC) raced out to a 7-0 lead in just 6:30. Sophomore Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) connected on back-to-back attempts about a minute apart and Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) completed a hat trick to close the opening run.

Muhlenberg (4-2, 0-2 CC) pulled to 9-2 on a goal by Angela Napoletano at 11:21, but the Bullets raced off for the next eight tallies to take a 17-2 advantage less than two minutes into the final period.

Gettysburg dominated the draw circle, winning 24-of-29 draw controls. The Bullets out-shot the Mules 39-9 and picked up 25 ground balls.

A dozen Bullets found the scoring column led by Pruitt's four goals. Blumenthal ended the day with three goals and one assist, while senior Hannah Church (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales), junior Hayward Sawers (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls), sophomore Bailey Beardsley (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key), and freshmen Kate Higgins (Oreland, Pa./William Penn Charter School) and Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each recorded two goals. Church is now just one point shy of becoming the eighth Gettysburg player to reach 200 career points. Junior Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) handed out four assists and scored one goal.

Senior goalie Maddie Coleman (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge Country) logged three saves and two ground balls to lead the defense. Junior Mairead McGuirk (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) posted two caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls. Sophomore Kelsey Markiewicz (Salisbury, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) led the team with four draw controls to go with one goal and one assist.

Gettysburg returns to action at Dickinson College on Tuesday, March 27, at 4:30 p.m.
